Cycling

Hop on a bike and explore the Alentejo’s plains and hills on two wheels, cutting through the groves and roads of one of Portugal’s most extensive biking routes. Cycle along the coastline on the EuroVelo 1 trail, also known as the Atlantic Coast Route, and enjoy the protected coastline, small towns, fishing villages and stretches of dunes and beaches on the Rota Vicentina. Long straight roads with little traffic are shaded by centuries old trees. Hills, capped by castles, rise above the plains.
Discover a variety of routes through different, ever-changing terrain: along coastal cliffs, through ancient woods and lush valleys. The Alentejo has some of the quietest roads in Europe and off-road you’ll have the landscape to yourself. More challenging mountain bike trails can be found to the north in the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park.
The Alentejo has perfect cycling terrain and services to help along the way. Find cycling

Cycling Centres

A network of routes covering 3365 cyclable kilometres, which are part of the region's Cycling Centres, as approved by the Portuguese Cycling Federation (http://www.cyclinportugal.pt/en/). Get the most out of diverse landscapes in a number of cycling areas, which vary between: XC - Cross Country; Endurance; Road; Tours and Gravel.

Bicycle tours of the area are presented logically, in an interconnected web that promotes sustainable tourism and straightforward mobility. Users can choose routes that take less than a day to cycle, or they can go on longer tours, staying the night along the way, finding connections between existing routes that take them to the various Cycling Centres (CC).
